Solar cell manufacturer Nanosolar has raised $100 million to build factories for making thin-film solar cells using a "roll to roll" process similar to printing. That technique will lower the cost of solar panels, the company says.

The company has a facility in San Jose, Calif., and a manufacturing site near Berlin.
