Images: Green bloggers stash trash

Some people who blog about their own garbage aren't keeping every last shred of what they throw away. Several are focusing on plastic alone.

A blogger from Vancouver, Canada, who goes by the pseudonym EnviroWoman began documenting efforts to eliminate plastic from her life late in 2006. As these piles show, she dramatically reduced her plastic waste in 2007 from 2006.

The project led EnviroWoman to postpone dental treatment (X-ray covers are plastic) and repainting her car (to avoid plastic sheeting). She started buying powdered milk in bulk bins. She gave up frozen pizza, dish soap, nail polish, and Lawry's Seasoning Salt. It took EnviroWoman three weeks to find a plastic-free, aluminum step ladder.

However, she wrote that she "sinned" by buying $40 mascara from a company that came in a metal tube, but with a plastic wand. She hunted far and wide for substitutes for Scotch tape, flip-flop sandals, motor oil, Band-Aids, and body lotion, seemingly to no avail.
