"Blows OS X and XP out of the water"
Pros: 2 second start up, 1 touch shutdown, spotlight, USB cartridges as ram, IE not built in, way more secure than XP, the awesome new interface, new system which runs programs you use often a lot faster
Cons: It's not here yet, you need a good graphics card to run it
Summary: All you OS X fans finally get your punishment. Don't say I'm ignorant, I use OS X at work and XP at home, and I vastly preferred XP. Windows Vista is going to be amazing. You will be able to turn the computer on and off so quickly. And one of my favorite new features is the ability to use those USB cartridges as ram and plug it in and take it out at any time. Now you don't need to get a lot of ram on your computer and laptop, but simply get a USB cartridge and switch it to the machine you're using. The new interface is very cool, sleek, smooth, and easily to live with(curse that annoying dock on OS X!!). And best of all, Vista is about a trillion times safer than was fragile XP. That's because IE is no longer built into the OS and the new security tools are much more abundant. Thank you Microsoft!!

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA.
that was funny. oh wait..
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHA.
That WAS a joke, right?
The only thing correct in your statement was the "Windows Blows" part. -
If your looking for innovation to come from Microst's Vista, well, I'm afraid your going to have to wait for Apple's new Leopard OS.
Leopard will have truley tons of new innovations that will CRUSH, HUMILITATE AND PUT VISTA TO SHAME! Mark my words!
PS. Unlike Vista, you won't have to wait over half-a-decade later either. -
the dock icons on osx really lame but positives of powerbook (build quality, looks great, dvi, dual monitor feaures,os impressive)i probably get asus/alienware or sony with xp or vista. Is there going to be intel 12 inch mac pro?

The first three "new" features are security related. That's definitely a plus, but hardly what I would call "features". These are essential components, not features. Great! You can turn the computer on and off quickly. I could see using ONE of those functions often. And using a USB cartridge as RAM is supposed to be enticing? How much is RAM now adays? Please,... spend $40 and just put in more RAM and forget about it. Using a cartridge for RAM is just plain stupid.
I see no compelling reason to switch from XP, other than security. -
I've got to agree with thefox84 on this one. Windows Vista appears to be quite amazing. Plus Microsoft is finally delivering a secure product and I'm afraid apple is letting their guard down. Hackers have already begun to pay more attention to Apple's OS X with "leap a" and other trojans / worms appearing lately.

Microsoft envies Mac's OSX. All its trying to do with the Vista is to try to come close to what OSX already offers. No matter what, OSX, and future Mac OS will ALWAYS be vastly superior than what Mr.Gates and his cronies can conceive!

1 second startup/shutdown- Its called the 'sleep' function on a Mac.
Spotlight, Widgets, Expose are allready avaliable on Mac Os X.
I think that Windows Vista is just a copy of MAc Os X Tiger. Anyway by the time Vista comes out there will be an even more advanced operating system called MAC OS X LEOPARD.
PS. The USB as Ram thing wont work, because the read/write speed of USb stick is way slower then of a built in Ram Stick. -
What a bunch of Bull! Mac os x is the best operating system out there and I have used Linux(many Versions), Unix Windows (many versions) and Ilove the stability of Apple version of Unix (Os x).

I read the other comments and they sound like sour grapes. If you can really use USB cartridges as ram, this is a giant step forward. Does anyone know whether OS has this capability?

We've had a beautiful interface and stable platform with OXS for the last five years and haven't looked back. It's great that our Windows friends have something that might be just as nice. But less we foget that OSX hasn't rested on it's lurels and are constantly update and polishing the software. Bill can't even get a spotlight-like program to work on it yet.
But look at what you do get, a niffty spyware scanner, a player that can organize media, and an interface that can handel transparrent menus. Holy cow, now thats inovation worth waiting 6 years for.
And as far as speed goes, lets wait until 1 of the 8 versions are out shall we. -
Microsoft reminds me of the Japanese, they never truely invent or develop something of their own, it's always a copy but enhanced. Things that are developed at other companies, ie. Hotmail, Internet Explorer, Microsoft either buys the company out to gain an edge over the market thus muscling the a smaller company out of the market, ie. Netscape. A classic example of monopolizing. Their MS DOS was copied from DEC's OS at that time. Marketing is what has gotten Microsoft as far as they are now, even if inferior.

Keep hanging on to that sinking ship of an OS called Windows and soon you will find yourself just that....SUNK!! Microsoft is scrambling very hard to duplicate an OS that has been on the market for years. If Microsoft fails to make Vista as good as or better than Tiger is right now then they are in HUGE trouble because it won't be long before 10.5 is released and once again Billy boy will be behind the eight-ball.

ok.
when you are downloading extra drivers and patches to get it to work properly, I'll be using OS X. -
By the time they actually release it, it will be 2076 anyway. -
Good for you!!! : )
enjoy it while the newness lasts.
I'll stick with what is proven not a copy cat!
ALSO an XO and OSX user...
Hasta la Vista
